The woman, a member of the tea tribe community, was allegedly approached by Mohammad Abu Bakkar, who reportedly used a false identity while proposing marriage. After she refused, Bakkar allegedly tried to take her to his house, but she managed to escape.

Furious over her rejection, Bakkar later reportedly stormed into her house late at night, seeking revenge. He allegedly doused the house with petrol and set it on fire, intending to burn the entire family alive. While the woman's parents escaped unharmed, her uncle and brother suffered severe burns and remain in critical condition.

Following the attack, the family filed a complaint at Dhekiajuli Police Station, leading to Bakkar’s arrest on the night of February 5. Her parents alleged that he had forcibly abducted her out of anger over their refusal to approve his marriage proposal.

Authorities are investigating the case, while the injured victims receive medical treatment.
