GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested an official from the Circle Office in the Patharighat Revenue Circle, Darrang in Assam for corruption, as per a statement released by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
Hari Das Singha, Lat Mandal of Office of the Circle Officer, Patharighat Revenue Circle, Darrang had demanded a sum of ₹20,000 from a person for mutation of land.
The bribe money was later, reduced to ₹18,000 which was further reduced to ₹17,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the person approached the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam and lodged a complaint against Singha.
Accordingly, a trap was laid out today, September 7, by a team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption at the Office of the Circle Officer; as a result of which Hari Das Singha was caught red handed in the office, soon after he accepted a bribe of ₹10,000 out of the demanded money, from the complainant.
The tainted bribe money was recovered from the possession of Singha in the presence of the independent witnesses.
A case was then registered in the Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station against Singha. Legal action is underway.
