GUWAHATI: A couple hailing from Bhojkuchiapara village in the remote region of the Bajali district in Assam is set to make their mark in the upcoming Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
Juna Tamuli Barman and Pranab Kumar Barman, successful dairy farmers, secured a spot in the 36-member state team for their outstanding contribution to the field of dairy farming.
The journey for this poverty-stricken family began in 2004 with a single cow, media reports stated, and through hard work, dedication, and the support of veterinary guidance, they have transformed their living standards. The couple's success story includes the use of Artificial Insemination (AI) for cross-breeding under the 'swarnadhenu' scheme.
Many families in Bajali, once struggling for livelihood, are now leading prosperous lives through dairy farming, showcasing the positive impact of such initiatives. Dairy farming in Bajali has flourished, addressing unemployment issues and contributing to record milk production, meeting local needs, and supplying to larger entities like Purabi Dairy, Guwahati.
Juna’s dedication has earned her several accolades, including awards from former Assam Governor JB Patnaik, Mukhyamantri Prerna Award in 2018, Best Dairy Farmer Award in the National Livestock Show in 2019, and more.
