GUWAHATI: Congress Leader and Politician Aftabuddin Mollah was taken into custody on November 7 from the Block F of MLA Hostel in Guwahati on alleged charges of hate speech.
The Dispur Police apprehended Mollah under IPC 295 (A)/ 153 A(1)(B)/505 (2) on the alleged charges of instigative communal opinions.
The charges confirmed by video evidence also pointed out that his communal opinions were allegedly targeted towards the Hindu community during a public address which hurt the sentiments of various communities in the state.
He was arrested following an FIR filed at the Dispur Police Station and was detained for proper interrogation.
While addressing the public, Mollah said, “They say Muslims are number one in everything. They say the Muslims’ blood boils whenever they see women. In today’s generation of mobiles, wherever rapes occur, generally we find the Mandir Sadhus or the Naamghoriyaas. It is always the Hindus who are at the forefront, yet we are to be blamed for such atrocities.”
Diganta Barah, the Commissioner Of Police, Assam, while talking to the media about this case said, “This apprehension also stems out of the directive issued by the apex court which states that any person who instigates such hate speech against communities can be taken into custody if there are allegations levelled. Even if there is a lack of allegations, the police in such cases can issue a warrant, and after proper investigation can detain the suspect.”
Further details are awaited.
