GUWAHATI: The Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered to file the chargesheet in the Animesh Bhuyan lynching case in Jorhat within 30 days. This was stated in a post shared by the Assam CM on Twitter.

“We have directed the Director General of Special Police, Shri GP Singh, to personally supervise the investigation into the incident and submit the chargesheet within a month,” CM Sarma tweeted on Tuesday, November 30.

The CM has further ordered the case to be decided in a fast track court and punish the guilty.

Meanwhile, Assam Cabinet Minister Ranoj Pegu visited the family of Animesh Bhuyan in Dergaon on Tuesday. Speaking to the media, Pegu said, “This is a very sad incident, it has pained me a lot. I have no words to express.”

“We are going ahead with it and the case will be decided at a fast track court to expedite justice and punish the guilty. This has been ordered by the Assam CM,” Pegu further added.

Furthermore, the public has demanded a memorial in Animesh Bhutan's name in the area to create awareness and ensure that such incidents are not repeated. “I had a discussion regarding this with the District administration, and we will look for an appropriate place near the spot or nearby to build the memorial,” Pegu said.

The Assam government has also decided to help the family financially as the deceased was the main earning member of the family, Pegu added.

Pegu further ensured that more persons will be arrested in this connection, and has requested those having video footage to share it with the Police.
