Assam: CIT Kokrajhar Seals Campus After Five Students Test Positive for COVID-19

GUWAHATI: The Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar (CIT Kokrajhar) on February 25 notified that five COVID-19 positive cases have been detected on the campus. 


"It is felt necessary to immediately seal the entire campus of the institution to arrest the spread of COVID-19 in the interest of public health," read the official notification. 


"Students who have tested COVID-19 positive are currently admitted in hospital. We have contacted the district administration for conducting a rapid test of the remaining students inside the campus. Tests are currently going on to detect infections," said an assistant professor of the institute speaking to G Plus. 


"There are around 300-400 students on campus and it is hard to keep track of their whereabouts," he further noted.


The five students, who tested positive for Coronavirus hail from Shillong, Agartala, Shivsagar, Cooch Behar and Guwahati. 


The professor also revealed that students voluntarily came up to tell the authority they are showing symptoms of the novel coronavirus. The professor further emphasized that the students are cautious and their effort to curb the spread of the disease is commendable.


"All the five COVID positive students have been shifted to Kokrajhar Civil Hospital for treatment," said the professor.


Moreover, G Plus has learned that students were asked to submit a negative report of their COVID-19 test before entering the campus. However, the procedure didn't seem to have worked out.
