Assam Boxers Shining At Women’s World Boxing Championships

GUWAHATI: Golaghat’s Boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg)  and Sonitpur’s Jamuna Boro have advanced into the quarterfinals, in their respective weight classes at the AIBA Women’s World Championships held at Ulan-Ude, Russia on October 9th.

Lovlina stunned Morocco's Bel Ahbib Oumayma 5-0 and Jamuna defeated former world champion Ouidad Sfouh 5-0 in the pre-quarterfinal bout.

Lovlina has been selected for her second Women’s World Boxing Championships without trials. Her father Mr. Tiken Borgohain is a small-scale businessman and has had financial struggles to support her boxing career.

Jamuna Boro’s father died when she was ten years old. Her mother had to work as a vegetable vendor to support her career.
