GUWAHATI: Assam's young pugilists have won six gold medals at the REC National Open Talent Hunt Boxing Championship in the junior and sub-junior categories.

The championship, organised by the Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) with support from the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), concluded on Monday, September 30, at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) regional centre’s indoor stadium in Guwahati.
In the junior boys' 70 kg category, Sundeep Basumatary of Assam claimed gold after defeating fellow state boxer Arnab Baruah in the final. In the junior girls’ category, Assam’s Hema Narzary (60 kg) and Loniliza Mili (70 kg) reached the finals but had to settle for silver after losing their respective bouts.
The sub-junior girls' team from Assam managed to secure four gold medals. In the 33 kg final, Riddhika Bhandari won gold after defeating Pranamika Das, also from Assam. Spuddha Dikshita Parashar clinched gold in the 35 kg category, while Konkanai triumphed in the 52 kg division. Nehai also emerged victorious, securing the 58 kg gold.
In relative matches, Shini Hazarika (43 kg), Trisha Pegu (55 kg), and Sangita Sonowal (58 kg) reached the finals but had to settle for silver. In the sub-junior boys’ 33 kg category, Abhigyan Bora won gold, while Abhiyan Boro secured silver after falling short in his final bout.
Assam's success continued to prevail in the semifinals, where several boxers earned bronze, including Dipankar Das, Rangdha Patgiri, Sunena Akhtar, Suman Devi, Kum Kum Bora, Kasturi Patar, Kuki, and Pratistha.
In total, Assam’s boxers won 38 medals in the junior and sub-junior categories: six gold, eight silver, and 24 bronze. Earlier in the elite and youth categories, Assam also managed to secure 16 medals, including two gold, six silver, and eight bronze.
