GUWAHATI: Biswanath Ghat, a village nestled in the heart of Assam, has been honoured with the prestigious title of "Best Tourism Village of India 2023" by the Ministry of Tourism. The announcement was made by the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, through his official Twitter account on September 22.
This recognition comes as a result of a rigorous selection process that saw Biswanath Ghat shine amidst stiff competition. The village emerged triumphant from a pool of 791 applications representing 31 states and union territories, underscoring the uniqueness and allure of this quaint destination.

Biswanath Ghat is Located south of Biswanath Chariali Town. Biswanath Ghat is also popularly known as "Gupta Kashi". The town is named after the ancient Biswanath mandir. It is called Gupta Kashi, in comparison with Kashi during the golden rule of the Guptas. The ghat has a cluster of temples of different gods. A Siva temple was located at the confluence of the Bridhaganga (Burigonga) river with the Brahmaputra.
