GUWAHATI: The Baghjan blowout was finally "killed" on Sunday, November 16 after close to six months.

Oil India Limited (OIL) released a statement regarding the issue. "Fire has been doused completely. There is no pressure in the well now and the same will be observed for 24 hours to check if there is any amount of gas migration & pressure build-up."

OIL also revealed that further operations have started to abandon the well. G Plus spoke to OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika, who stated that OIL "will never produce from this well again." "Next we will think about abandoning. We will put some cement plus in areas as the last phase," Hazarika told G Plus.

Earlier, on May 27, a blowout or an uncontrollable release of natural gas was reported at well number 5 in the Baghjan oilfield in Assam's Tinsukia district. On June, the well erupted in flames.
