GUWAHATI: In the efforts to modernise public transportation, the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has unveiled a proposal for an Intelligent Management Transport System (ITMS).
This system will provide a new commuting experience for passengers.
The proposed ITMS will incorporate various technologies to enhance passenger convenience and safety.
Passengers will have access to real-time information regarding bus schedules and arrivals, ensuring better planning and reduced waiting times.
In addition, the installation of CCTV cameras inside the buses will augment security measures, ensuring passenger safety throughout their journey.
A dedicated control centre will be established to monitor and manage the operations of the ITMS.
Skilled personnel at the control centre will oversee the duration of bus stops at each designated bus stop, ensuring efficient and timely service.
Furthermore, a panic button will be integrated into the buses, providing passengers with a quick and reliable way to alert authorities in case of emergencies.
The ITMS will also encompass a comprehensive depot management system.
This system will facilitate route scheduling, where designated routes will be decided for the commute of the buses.
Additionally, roster management will be implemented to ensure a smooth and well-organized workflow for bus drivers and conductors.
A Detailed Project Report of the ITMS proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways which is currently analysing the proposal, once accepted they will provide the necessary funding for this ambitious project.
Looking toward the future, ASTC also has plans to introduce various modes of payment for bus fares.
In the near future, passengers will be able to conveniently pay using credit cards, debit cards, and online payment methods, further simplifying the ticketing process and accommodating a wide range of payment preferences.
The introduction of the ITMS and the integration of advanced features into ASTC buses signify a significant step towards a modern and passenger-centric public transportation system.
