Assam Assembly Elections: Congress Accuses BJP of Running 'Cattle Syndicate'

GUWAHATI: Intensifying the campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, senior Congress leader and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel accused Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government in Assam of running a cattle syndicate and not government.  Bhupesh Baghel launched a scathing attack on Sonowal saying that time has come to end Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government rule in the state to “Save Assam” and claimed the ruling party is sponsoring cow trade across the border with Bangladesh.

Baghel alleged that the government of Assam is protecting smuggling of cows in the state.

“BJP has been seeking votes in the name of cows across the country. But, in Assam it is sponsoring and carrying out illegal cattle trade with Bangladesh. In fact, the Sonowal government has been running a systematic syndicate,” Bhupesh Baghel said according to reports.

Not just illegal cattle trade, Baghel also accused the Sonowal-led Assam government of operating syndicates for illegal coal trading. Highlighting the unemployment issue in the state, the Chattisgarh CM said, “The BJP had promised to create 2 crore jobs but unemployment has grown by over 5 lakh from 2016-2020 and the situation has worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic period.”
