Assam Approves Formation Of 10 New Co-Districts For Better Governance

GUWAHATI: Assam is set to operationalise 10 new co-districts by August 15, in a move taken at decentralising governance and improving service delivery at the grassroots level.

The development was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following the state cabinet meeting held on Saturday, April 12.

The cabinet approved the creation of co-districts in Boko-Chaygaon, Palasbari, Barchalla, Rangapara, Makum, Teok, Mariani, Dholai, Digboi, and Dudhnai. The initiative has been particularly introduced to bring administration closer to the people, while improving efficiency in government services across these regions at the same time.

Another key decision taken in the meeting was related to strengthening cancer care infrastructure in Assam, with financial backing to ongoing projects under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation.
