Assam among the worst performing states in SDGs

GUWAHATI: Assam has emerged as one of the worst performing states along with Bihar and Uttar Pradesh in the Niti Aayog’s first-of-its-kind India Index for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The government think tank has developed the SDG India Index. It is a comprehensive index to ascertain the progress of states and UTs, via a single measurable index and the First Baseline Report for 2018. The index has been prepared with the support of the United Nations in India.

On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have emerged as the best-performing states in Niti Aayog's SDG India index 2018- which evaluates progress in economic, social, and environmental terms, as per a report released on December 21.

The India index took into account 13 out of the 17 goals specified by United Nations as SDGs and left out four goals sue to lack of data availability at the state level.
