Assam: All but Class 8, 10, 12 Students to be Promoted Without Exams

GUWAHATI: Educational institutes across Assam will reopen from November 2 onwards, stated education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference on October 17.

Sarma informed that only students of classes 8, 10 and 12 will have exams for the year. As for class 8, the schools can conduct private exams.

"All other students will be promoted to the next year without examination," added Sarma.

The Assam government has decided to resume classes from class 6 onwards.

"Students of classes 6 onwards will resume physical classes. Classes will be held in two sessions - 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM," Sarma said, adding that there will be no mandate to attend the classes as attendance won't be taken in schools and online classes will continue.

While physical classes for students in primary school till class 5 will remain suspended, such students may visit school for informal academic exchange and mid-day-meal. The decision to resume classes for students of class 1 to 5 will be taken in December, Sarma stated.
