Assam: Al-Qaeda Affiliated Jihadis Arrested In Barpeta

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police on Friday, March 4, arrested five persons from the Barpeta district for their links with a Jihadi outfit based out of Bangladesh having an Al-Qaeda affiliation.

The arrests were made from the Howly and Kalgachia police station areas of Barpeta district, Assam.

The accused have been identified as Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid alias Mohammad Suman, Khairul Islam, Badshah Suleiman Khan, Noushad Ali and Taimur Rahman Khan.

An official release states that Mohammad Suman, a citizen of Bangladesh, entered India illegally and was working as a teacher at a masjid. He allegedly motivated the other four to join the module of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) with a view of developing Barpeta as a base for Jihadi work and carrying out unlawful activities of Al-Qaeda.

Incriminating documents and electronic devices were also recovered from their possession. 

Further investigation of the case is underway.
