GUWAHATI: Authorities have arrested a person in the act of attempting to capture a rare species of bird in Hojai on March 31.

The suspect was intercepted by Assam Police on Sunday when he was trying to capture a Citrine Wagtail, a small songbird of significant ecological importance.

Assam Police took to X to put out, “Shikari Khud Yahan Shikar Ho Gyaa! One person who was catching a rare species of birds in a reserve forest area was arrested by @Hojai_Police. The only thing you should be catching in a reserve forest is breathtaking views, not rare species.”

The Hojai Police said that the accused has been handed over to the Forest Department for further investigations. More details are awaited.
