GUWAHATI: Political debutants Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal (RD) on February 4 announced their alliance for the forthcoming Assam assembly elections.

AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan visited Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) where Gogoi is undergoing treatment under custody.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi said the alliance has been finalised and the modalities will be worked out and announced shortly.

Akhil Gogoi has been imprisoned since December 2019 and is currently undergoing treatment at the GMCH, Guwahati awaiting bail in various cases against him. The AJP and the Raijor Dal were floated last year, ahead of the Assam assembly elections.
