GUWAHATI: A 79-Year-Old man from Barak Valley whose name was excluded from the NRC draft last year found himself on the Independence Day roll of honour prepared by the Assam Government.
According to reports, Sunirmal Bagchi, a cultural activist from Barak valley could not make it to the NRC at the time when the exclusion list was published earlier on June last year.
Bagchi born in 1943 in Barak valley spenty his early life working as a lighting designer for theatre groups and was also a member of several cultural organisations. His father was a medical officer at a government establishment in Silchar.

"I have won this honour as an Indian but cannot understand why I couldn't make it to the NRC. The pension was announced a day before Independence Day, while the exclusion list was published much earlier," said Bagchi.
With this Bagchi now became eligible for a monthly government pension for his contributions in the field of culture. However, the pension stands to be void if his name fails to feature in the the final NRC.
It is to be mentioned like Sunirmal Bagchi over a lakh people who had been included in the NRC, then dropped, and are now waiting to see if they will be included again.
