Assam: 235 Rare Flapshell Turtles Recovered From Kamakhya Railway Station

GUWAHATI: Acting on prior information, 10 bags containing 235 rare, Flapshell Turtles were recovered by the Railway Protection Force from Kamakhya Railway Station, Guwahati on Saturday, February 5.

The turtles were being brought in the Indore-Kamakhya Train.

The RPF personnel on checking duty detected these bags lying unclaimed inside a coach. When they searched the bags they found the turtles.

The Flapshell Turtles where later produced and handed over to the Guwahati Range under Kamrup East Division for further investigation, rescue and rehabilitation. A wildlife case has been registered and the turtles are at present being treated at the Assam State Zoo.

The zoo officials informed that these Flapshell Turtles will be later released in a protected area or national park.
