GUWAHATI: The Assam Secondary Education Board (ASSEB) has decided to cancel the remaining subjects of the HS First Year Examination, 2025, due to the upcoming Panchayat Elections. The decision was taken in a board meeting held on April 4.

The board cited the engagement of teachers in election duties, including training, polling, and vote counting, as the primary reason for the cancellation. The election process is expected to continue until May 20, making it impractical to conduct the exams either before or after this period.
Students who have appeared in the exams held in March 2025 will be allowed to sit for the HS Final Examination in 2026.
Regarding marks for the cancelled subjects, institutions will be authorised to generate mark sheets from the ASSEB website. Marks will be assigned based on students' performance in unit tests, half-yearly exams, or an average of their scores in subjects already examined. The process of uploading marks is said to be completed by June 15.
A formal notification on the mark sheet issuance process will be released in due course.
Earlier, in a notification on March 25, the board announced that the postponed examinations would be held after the commencement of HS Second Year classes.
