GUWAHATI: The Assam government has approved the release of salaries for 131 Lower Primary (L.P.) school teachers in Karbi Anglong, addressing 19 months of unpaid wages. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, September 24.

The approval came after the teachers submitted a formal letter to the District Primary Education Officer, demanding immediate payment of their overdue salaries and expressing concerns about how the delay was affecting their ability to work.

These teachers, employed by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) under the Primary Education Department, launched a class boycott over non-payment of salaries, disrupting academic activities in various Lower Primary schools and raising concerns among students and parents.

The teachers reported that they had not received their salaries since February 2023, which led to financial difficulties.
