'Asom Darshan Scheme' to be Launched Today; 710 Cr Spent

GUWAHATI: The Asom Darshan Scheme will be formally launched on February 24 in the  Veterinary College Ground, Khanapara.

It is to be mentioned that earlier Assam State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that under this scheme Rs. 710 crore will be spent to develop and promote places of tourist interest and religious importance.

The minister further said that these 915 religious institutions include 74 devalayas, 459 temples, 186 satras, 123 nnamghars 47 masjids and mazars, and 26 churches.

Apart from this, the tourism department has also identified 316 picnic and tourist destinations in the state for development and these would later be included in the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "The visionary Rs 710 cr #AsomDarshan program has 4 components - Annuity grant to Devalayas; Improving basic infrastructure of places of natural beauty and historical significance; Improving key infrastructure in religious places; Improved connectivity for visitors." 

He also said, "This program is designed to develop and publicise various places of tourist interest, including those blessed with natural beauty as well as those of religious or historical importance."
