Ashmita Chaliha wins Women’s Singles title at Tata Open India Int'l Challenge 2018

GUWAHATI: Nineteen-year-old Ashmita Chaliha from Guwahati won the Tata Open India International Challenge Badminton Championship at Mumbai women’s singles title on 2 December.

Chaliha defeated Vrushali Gummadi by 21-16, 21-13 in the final held at NAS Sports Complex.

This was her second international title of the year after winning the Dubai International Challenge Title on November 18.

Winner of Women’s Singles title, Ashmita Chaliha said, “I am very happy to win the Tata Open in my first year itself. Winning against Vrushali Gummadi makes the victory even sweeter as I have never won against her before. After winning two consecutive international titles, my focus would be to play better in future tournaments.”

It is also to be mentioned that Lakshya Sen from India won the Men’s Singles title defeating Kunlavut Vitidsarn from Thailand who had beaten him earlier in the semi-finals of Asia Junior Championship.
