GUWAHATI: To curb the spread of novel coronavirus during this upcoming monsoon and the subsequent annual floods that can be expected, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) released guidelines for relief camp management to tackle problems caused by floods in the state.
The prescribed guidelines have ordered for allocation of at least seven square metre of space for each inmate against the normal 3.5 square metres within the relief camp which is to be maintained from June to August. The guidelines suggest at least one metre space between two inmates.
Adequate hand wash, sanitizers, masks and other safety and protective equipment for camp inmates are to be arranged.
The relief camp premises have been ordered to be strictly notified as No-spitting and No-tobacco Zones and nutrient-rich cooked food is to be served to the inmates.

Medical teams deployed are directed to wear basic protective equipment for screening, registration and other work.
The order also stated that re-identification of the medical facilities such as ambulances for transportation of infected, isolation facilities nearby should be done.
In case a person shows symptoms of sneezing, cough, fever and common cold, immediate medical supervision is to be made and the person may be kept separately following COVID-19 norms.
Closed bins of different colours must be in place in all the camps for disposal of used items and adequate stock of disinfectants shall be made available in the camps with designated sanitation worker to keep the camp sanitized.
All appropriate messages and communications in local languages must be displayed at appropriate locations in the camp and feasible broadcast arrangements must be made through radio/TV to inform the camp inmates on safety messages and evolving situation.
E-Help desk is to be facilitated in all Operational Relief camps with the help of Pratirodhi Bondhu as counsellor or facilitator.
Further, the stakeholders have been asked to identify and operationalize child-friendly spaces for integrated service delivery to women and children while maintaining norms of social distancing in the relief camps.
