The announcement followed a meeting at the Bhagawati Prasad Barua Bhawan in Guwahati, chaired by Sahitya Sabha President Surya Kanta Hazarika. The meeting also included Secretary Upendrajit Sharma, Vice-President Girish Handique, and former Vice-President Mrinalini Devi.
The decision to release the updated list of candidates was made after extensive discussions to ensure transparency and build consensus among Sabha members and to put an end to the controversy surrounding the initial, draft list of candidates for the post of president.
Alongside the presidential candidates, the Asam Sahitya Sabha also revealed nominations for other key positions, including Vice-President and General Secretary.
Chief Electoral Officer Prashant Kumar Deka at a press conference outlined the final list of nominations for the upcoming elections. For the position of Vice-President for the 2025-27 term, five nominations had been received, though the nominations of Ajay Singh and Narahari Chutiya were cancelled. The remaining valid nominations for Vice-President are Bipin Chandra Kalita, Sahir Bhuyan, and Padum Rajkhowa.
Additionally, three candidates—Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Ajit Prasad Sharma, and Debojit Borah—were nominated for the post of Editor-in-Chief, with all of their nominations accepted as valid.
