Arunachal's Ponung Doming Becomes First Woman From State To Be Appointed Lt Colonel In Indian Army

GUWAHATI: An army officer from Arunachal Pradesh has created history by becoming the first woman officer from her native state to hold the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army. 

It is to be mentioned that Ponung Doming is the first woman officer from Arunachal to be elevated from the post of Army Major to Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army on Monday, September 23.

Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Ponung Doming on her achievement and tweeted, "Major Ponung Doming creates history. She is the first woman Army officer from Arunachal to be elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army. Hearty congratulations and best wishes!"

Earlier, Wing Commander Shaliza Dhami became the first woman officer of the Indian Air Force to be elevated to the rank of Flight Commander of a flying unit after which she took charge of a Chetak helicopter unit at the Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on August 26.
