GUWAHATI: The Arunachal Rang Mahotsav, a four-day cultural extravaganza organised by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, commenced at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati. With the objective of vividly presenting Arunachal's historical journey through theatrical performances, this festival aims to celebrate the state's rich heritage and cultural tapestry.

Designed to span across four major cities of India—Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Guwahati—between July 18 and August 11, the festival's centrepiece is a series of four captivating plays, each addressing significant chapters of Arunachal's history.

The opening drama, titled "Chowpha-Plang-Lu," staged on Tuesday, delves into the historical narrative of Arunachal Pradesh in 1839. This period marked a pivotal moment when the state paved the way for a revolutionary movement that later resonated across the Indian mainland, eventually becoming the precursor to the first Indian Independence movement.

The grand inauguration of the event was graced by prominent dignitaries including Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who participated as chief guests.
