Armed Miscreant Tries Daylight Robbery at Guwahati Jewellery Store

 

 

GUWAHATI: On Wednesday, June 12 morning, an armed miscreant tried to rob a jewellery shop in the Hedayatur locality near Guwahati Club. The incident, caught on CCTV, has left the city in shock. 

The suspect, identified as Abhishek Thakur, entered the jewellery shop posing as a customer. Initially browsing through the jewellery sets, Thakur suddenly sprayed a substance from his bag on the shop owner and a staff member. Taking advantage of the situation, he fled with a set of jewellery. However, the shop owner and staff quickly reacted, chasing him down and alerting locals.

With the help of the community, Thakur was apprehended on the roadside. Despite trying to intimidate with a homemade pistol, the brave locals managed to overpower him, delivering a beating before handing him over to Latasil Police. Investigations later revealed that Thakur, a resident of Lakhimpur's Chetia Village originally from Bihar, works for an NGO in Guwahati and resides in Chandmari Locality. 

In a police interrogation, Thakur confessed to acquiring the pistol from Gandhi Basti and committing the robbery due to financial difficulties. 

Talking to GPlus, an official from Latasil Police Station has confirmed the incident. 
Further investigation is under way.
