City Commuters Frustrated as Cab and Bike Services Cancel Trips

GUWAHATI: Daily commuters in the city are facing increasing frustration as cab and bike services continue to cancel bookings, leaving passengers stranded. In recent days, many have found it difficult to secure a ride, especially amid heavy rain and increasing traffic congestion.

Talking to GPlus, a daily commuter in Dispur said, For the last two or three days, it’s been almost impossible to get a cab or bike. Every time I book, it gets cancelled. It is really frustrating when you have to get somewhere on time and you are left stranded like this.”

Brijesh Deka, a commuter from Lokhra talking to GPlus said,  “Yesterday, I booked a ride from Lokhra Road to Ganeshguri, and three drivers cancelled back-to-back. It is so difficult to travel these days. With the rain and the traffic, even taking out our own cars does not help. We end up stuck in jams for hours.”

Drivers, too, are feeling the pressure. Talking to GPlus, a senior official from the All Assam Cab Association said, “Our drivers are cancelling because they are stuck in traffic for too long, especially during the rains. If it is a short-distance trip, they barely make any money after deducting the 30-35% that the company takes from their earnings. Many of them are struggling to even break even."

Both commuters and drivers are facing tough conditions, with no immediate solution in sight.
