GUWAHATI: Cybercrime has become quite rampant in the state of Assam. The number of cybercrime cases has increased in Assam.
In 2020, Assam registered 3,530 cybercrime cases, which is a rise from 2,231 cases in 2019 and 2,022 cases in 2018. The rate of cybercrime cases is 10.1 percent, which is higher than the all-India rate of 3.7 percent, as per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) Crime in India report 2020. The data is calculated as a crime incident per one lakh of people.
As such, the need to protect victims has become paramount. The Assam Police have forwarded helpline numbers for the people in the event of them falling victim to cybercrime.
The helpline numbers are 155260, 7099033469, 8811909323, and 7099033489.
The aforementioned numbers can be used to register any complaint of financial fraud within 24 hours. The complaint will be registered upon giving details such as transaction ID and bank account number. To register complaints beyond the frame of 24 hours, the residents will have to visit cybercrime.gov.in.
The other cyber frauds including job fraud, matrimonial fraud can also be registered at the said website.
