APDCL Facilitates Door-to-Door Collection of Electricity Bills

GUWAHATI: People can now apply for new electricity connection online. The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), from 1st January 2021, has facilitated the process of applying for new connections online via the www.apdcl.org website, up to 25 kilowatt in a time-bound manner.

The company has also launched a mobile application called 'APDCL EasyPay' whereby customers can pay their monthly bills to the company's agents. The agents will be coming for door-to-door collection of bills when asked for through the app.

APDCL has asked interested people who wish to be agents and collect bills online in lieu of commission, to apply for the same online.

Pradeep Goswami, Chief Executive Officer of Guwahati Electrical Circle-I, in a press release, stated that APDCL has been working relentlessly to provide unhindered service to the customers and lately the company has no record of load shedding in Guwahati and the nearby areas. Whatever shutdown has been reported has been done due to snags, technical breakdowns or developmental works undertaken by other agencies and departments.

The release added that registered customers can get details of every electricity shutdown through the 'Urja Mitra App'.

Admitting that sporadic instances of power theft have been reported, especially from hilly areas, Goswami mentioned that the vigilance squad has been conducting drives regularly to keep check on such theft.

2021 has been declared as ‘Zero Defective Meter Year’ by APDCL. Several steps have been taken in this regard including development of an in-house software (ARMS) to facilitate accurate reading of meters.

The meter readers have to click a photo of the reading through the e-Subidha app and the data of the meter will instantly get transferred to the ARMS. The project will be completed by March this year.
