GUWAHATI: In a significant development, Anurag Goel, IAS, has been appointed as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam. The Personnel Department of the Assam government issued a notification, highlighting the official order from the Election Commission of India.
As per the notification, the Election Commission of India, exercising its authority under sub-section (1) of section 13A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950), in consultation with the Government of Assam, has designated Anurag Goel, IAS (AM: 1996), as the Chief Electoral Officer for the State of Assam. The appointment is effective from the date he takes charge until further orders. Goel will succeed Nitin Kumar Shivdas Khade, IAS.
The order also states that Anurag Goel is required to relinquish any other responsibilities or duties he may be held under the Government of Assam before assuming his new role as CEO. While serving as the Chief Electoral Officer, Goel will not be assigned any additional charges under the Assam government, except for his designation as Principal Secretary to the Government in charge of the Election Department in the State Secretariat.
