GUWAHATI: The rescue of an abused pet dog from Japorigog, Guwahati has taken a sinister turn with the rescuer allegedly receiving multiple threatening phone calls following the operation. The rescuer, who worked alongside the Dispur Police Station team and PurrPaws Foundation to save the dog named Prince, has formally sought police intervention for his safety.

On November 21, he with the support of Dispur Police and PurrPaws Foundation, rescued Prince, a dog found in a severely abused and neglected state. Video evidence revealed that the dog’s owner, identified as Salim ul Islam, had brutally struck the animal. Following this, he and the team rescued the dog on November 22.
“Prince was in terrible condition. It was heartbreaking to see the abuse he suffered,” he said.
Speaking about the rescue, he said, “The condition Prince was in was heartbreaking. It was evident that he had suffered extreme abuse. The support from the police and PurrPaws Foundation was crucial in ensuring the dog’s safety.”
However, the story took a darker turn just hours after the operation. On the evening of November 22, he received a threatening phone call from Hrishikesh Sharma, who claimed to be an active member of the AGP. Sharma reportedly warned him for his involvement in the rescue, saying he could harm him at any time.
“The call came at 7:54 PM, and the tone was intimidating,” he recounted. “It wasn’t just about Prince; it felt like a threat to the very work I do as an animal rescuer.”
In addition to Sharma’s call, he has been inundated with threatening messages and calls from other unknown numbers, leaving him in a state of constant worry.
Talking to GPlus, he said “Animal rescue is not easy. Many people don’t see the importance of protecting these lives. But this is the first time I have faced threats that feel so personal and direct.”
