American Company Louis Berger To Study Feasibility Of Tunnel Under Brahmaputra In Assam

GUWAHATI: The American company Louis Berger has been tasked with conducting a feasibility study for the proposed underwater tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra River.

Union Minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari made the announcement on October 31 at the Radisson Blu hotel in Guwahati.

The proposed tunnel is set to stretch from Gohpur to Numaligarh, offering a vital transportation link in the region.

With a budget allocation of ₹12,000 crore, the project is poised to impact not only the state's infrastructure but also assist the Indian Army.

The feasibility study, to be carried out by Louis Berger, will play a pivotal role in determining the viability and technical aspects of this endeavour.

The choice of company is a curious one, especially considering the fact that Louis Berger was involved in a ₹6.5 crore bribery scam in Assam.

The firm allegedly paid money to officials and politicians in Assam to secure the contract of a water supply project.
