GUWAHATI: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his observations on the political developments of Assam and the newly formed party 'Assam Jatiya Parishad' has predicted 700-1500 votes in every constituency for the party and has urged them not to ask for donations from businessmen.
"I am okay with regional parties with new players joining politics. I request the political parties to stop asking for donations from businessmen," said the senior BJP leader.
Sarma further questioned AJP's claim of being a regional party by stating, "What is Anchalik (regional) party? We (BJP) are also regional and not some foreign unit."
The AJP has countered the comments made by Sarma and claimed that "BJP is scared over the new formation and it is pinching them. We don't want to counter any personal attacks as we are more interested in talking about issues like education and culture," said Raju Phukan, AJP convenor, to G Plus.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Minister Pijush Hazarika also remarked that the new party, AJP "as a copy-paste to Asom Gana Prasad (AGP)."
Earlier, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), on Monday, announced the naming of their new political party as Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).
