GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet has decided to add four more indigenous communities of Ahom, Koch, Rajbongshi and Gorkha to the list of protected classes of persons, in order to protect their land rights.

The decision was taken by the State Cabinet at the Cabinet meeting which was held yesterday at the Chief Minister’s Office in Lok Sewa Bhawan at the Assam Secretariat, Dispur.

The Ahom, Koch, Rajbongshi and Gorkha communities will be subsequently included in the list of protected classes of persons in the Balipara Tribal Belt who have been occupying the land prior to 2011, the Assam Government disclosed in an announcement after the Cabinet meeting.
