Ahead of Assam Polls, Singer Babu, Music Director Ajoy Phukan Join Congress


GUWAHATI: Assam singer Babu and music director Ajoy Phukan along with some other personalities from the Assamese cultural fraternity joined the Indian National Congress (INC) party on Tuesday, August 25. 


Nekib Ahmed and Anupam Saikia were also among the scores of artists who joined Congress while vocalist Srimanta Shekhar, flutist Deepak Sharma, and Pankaj Ingti joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in Assam.

The artistes joined Congress during a meeting at the party office in Guwahati in presence of Assam Pradesh Congress committee (APC) president Ripun Bora and in-charge of Assam Congress Harish Rawat. 


"Chaired wonderful & colourful meeting where more than 40 Nos.  of famous artists including singer Babu, Ajay Phukan, Nekib etc. joined Congress party in presence of large number of MLAs & senior leaders," tweeted Ripun Bora.


The function turned musical when the singers belted out a song on the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
