After Mobile Internet, Now Broadband Suspended In Manipur

 

GUWAHATI: In the wake of violence in Manipur, the state government had suspended mobile internet/data services for five days yesterday. And in continuation to the order issued yesterday, the Manipur government today suspended internet services including broadband, viz. Reliance Jio Fiber, Airtel Xtreme Black, BSNL FTTH  and others.

In a statement issued by the home department of Manipur it is stated that the order is issued to prevent any disturbances of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of the state of Manipur for next 5 days with immediate effect.

The order stated, “The order is being passed ex-parte in view of the emergent situation,” adding that any person found guilty for violation of aforesaid orders will be liable for legal action. 

Earlier Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday spoke to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and took stock of the situation. The Centre, which is monitoring the situation in Manipur, has also dispatched teams of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) for deployment in violence-hit areas of the Northeastern state.

It may be mentioned here that Manipur Governor on Thursday authorised all District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Magistrates and all Executive Magistrates/ Special Executive Magistrates to Shoot at sight if required to maintain law and order situation in the violent bound Manipur.

Shoot-at-sight orders are issued as the state has witnessed a series of violent protests since yesterday after the violence started at ATSUM's (All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur) solidarity march protest against the Meitei's demand for inclusion in Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.

The Manipur government has authorised all District Magistrates, Sub- Divisional Magistrates and all Executive Magistrates/ Special Executive Magistrates to issue Shoot at sight orders in extreme cases whereby all forms of persuasion, warning, and reasonable force had been exhausted to control law and order situations.
