Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship Conferred upon IIT Guwahati Professor

GUWAHATI: For the first time, the prestigious Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship by Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) has been conferred to Dr. Mihir Kumar Purkait of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati.


This prestigious Fellowship has been recently instituted to recognize, encourage and support translational research by individuals who have achieved excellence in engineering, innovation and technology development.


Dr. Mihir Kumar Purkait, Head of Centre for the Environment and Professor of Chemical Engineering Department, IITG speaking about the fellowship said, "I am glad that INAE and Department of Science and Technology (DST) have instituted this award to recognize the technology innovators in India. I am honoured by this recognition.”


The Fellowship will support Dr. Purkait in conducting advanced research in the area of prototype development for antioxidant extraction from tea leaves and production of low cost antioxidant tablets and capsules.


"I hope the tea companies of Assam and the northeast come forward to help. That will also help boost the economy of the northeastern states immensely," Dr. M K Purkait told G Plus.
