Assam: Abduction and Murder in Broad Daylight Amid Lockdown, Police Clueless

GUWAHATI: A horrific incident took place in broad daylight in spite of the fact that a lockdown is in place and movement of people is restricted.

A man was abducted from his home in Dima Hasao district of Assam and a week later his dead body was found. To top it all, the police remain clueless.

On April 24, Santosh Hojai, a 38-year-old businessman, was abducted from his home at Haragajao town of Dima Hasao. Five men entered Hojai's home, abducted him in front of his wife and took off in a white Bolero SUV car.

An FIR was lodged on April 25 and a case of kidnapping was registered. The locals urged the police to take swift action.

However, on April 30, Hojai's dead body was found buried next to National Highway 54 near Langting town in Dima Hasao, around 100 kms away from the place of abduction.

"The investigation is still in preliminary stage and the police cannot disclose any details," Bir Bikram Gogoi, SP of Dima Hasao district told G Plus.

However, on being asked how such an incident could take place amidst the lockdown without the police or district administration having a clue about it, he said, "The district of Dima Hasao is surrounded by jungles and hills all around. In such terrains, it becomes difficult to investigate the matter."

Reportedly, another dead body was recovered in Dima Hasao district the next day, that is, May 1.

The deceased has been identified as Roma Kanta Deb, Headmaster of Lower Michkur L.P school.

Deb's body was found near railway line in Ditockcherra, Dima Hasao.
