A Birthday Gone Sour: Several Hurt As Police Vehicle Rams Into Car In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A family travelling in a car had a narrow escape when an SUV carrying two policemen rammed hard into it from behind at Boripara in the Maligaon area on Sunday, April 13, afternoon.

The driver of the SUV fled, but bystanders managed to detain the two policemen who had started walking away.

“It was my birthday and my two elder sisters, their two children and I had gone out to fetch a cake,” Aryan Mashood Ahmed, who was at the wheel, told GPlus.

He said the car had stopped to turn right when the SUV hit it with force. “I had turned on the right indicator, but still this happened,” he said, adding the car was pushed a fair distance under the impact.

All the occupants of the car suffered varying degrees of injuries. He has lodged a complaint with the Jalukbari Police Station in this connection.

Narrating the incident further, he said bystanders caught hold of the two policemen. “Their vehicle had hit ours, which had children occupants and, yet, they didn't show any concern and were calmly walking away, but some people followed and detained them,” Aryan said.

He also alleged that they had removed their name plates ostensibly to hide their identities. He also suspected the driver of the SUV was inebriated.

The car suffered significant damage. When contacted, Jalukbari Police informed that the driver has been detained and further investigation is on.
