915 Religious Sites Across Assam Developed under 'Asom Darshan' scheme

GUWAHATI: State finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Saturday, February 22 informed that a total of 915 religious institutions across Assam have been developed under the 'Asom Darshan' scheme.

Addressing a press conference regarding 'Asom Darshan' scheme, at Janata Bhawan, the minister said that these 915 religious institutions include 74 devalayas, 459 temples, 186 satras, 123 nnamghars 47 masjids and mazars, and 26 churches.

Further, Rs. 710 crores have already been spent on infrastructure development and road construction for the scheme. All of these would be given annuity of Rs 10 lakh. 

Apart from this, the tourism department has also identified 316 picnic and tourist destinations in the state for development and these would later be included in the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme.

A total of 10 representatives of each of the above-mentioned religious institutions will attend the inaugural ceremony of ‘Asom Darshan’ to be held at Veterinary College Ground, Khanapara on February 24. 

Almost 10,000 people are expected to attend the event, which will be presided by CM Sarbananda Sonowal.
