90% Assam Congress MLAs are of Bangladeshi Origin: Himanta Biswa

GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa in front of a massive gathering during a BJP ‘peace’ rally at Dhemaji in Upper Assam took a jibe at the Assam Congress MLAs.

According to reports, Himanta Biswa said, 90 percent of the Congress MLAs from Assam who are citizens of India have their ancestors are from Bangladesh.

In the rally Sarma also said that the students' body, All Assam Students' Union (AASU) who is now so vocal and spearheading the anti-CAA protests was also soft when on Bangladeshi when they were included in the NRC.

Reacting to this Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, speaking to national media said, "Himanta Biswa Sarma should prove his allegation or apologise. The predecessors of Congress MLAs have come from what was East Bengal in British India. Therefore, fathers migrated from one British India state to another, which is Asaam. They cannot be called Bangladeshis since their forefathers migrated long before 1971 when Bangladesh was created."
