72-Year-Old Assam Woman Arrested with Drugs Worth Over Rs 17 Crores

The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested a 72-year-old woman from Assam in connection to a drug racket. The police busted a drug-peddling operation on 14th February and seized drugs worth over Rs. 7 crores. Five persons were arrested which included a 72-year-old woman from Assam.


Those arrested were identified as Piyarul Islam (40) and Sadikul Sheikh (31) from Murshidabad, Kartik Naidu (27), and Rakesh Thapa (26) from Manipur, Pravati Devi alias Pabitri Devi Jaiswal alias Chachi (72) from Karbi Anglong, Assam.


A senior STF officer said, “The total weight of the seized heroin is 2.097 kg. This has a market value of approx Rs 10 crores in the international grey market and the total weight of nearly 1,50,000 pieces of amphetamine tablets is 17.250 kg which has a market value of Rs 7.50 crores. The total value of the seized narcotic drugs is about Rs 17.5 crores in the international grey market."


The raid was conducted after a tip off around 6 am on 14th February at the Cossipore Police Station area. Two vehicles have also been seized.
