GUWAHATI: At least 7 Ethanol production units will start commercial production of the bio-fuel by mid 2023 in Assam. This comes after the declaration of State Ethanol Policy in August 2021.

On Sunday, February 6, Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with the promoters of these seven ethanol manufacturing entities.

"Proposed annual capacity of seven units is 970 KLD with planned investment of Rs 1154 crore which will generate 1K direct & 4K indirect employment," a tweet from the Chief Minister said.

In Assam, a total of 16 ethanol projects worth Rs 3,290 are in the pipeline.

Blending of bio-fuel Ethanol with primary automotive fuel like petrol and diesel can help decrease the Forex Reserves drain as India's fuel imports surge.

Formulated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the National Policy on bio-fuels 2018 aims to increase the usage of bio-fuel in the energy sector.
