630 Cancellations on First Day of Domestic Flight Resumption

GUWAHATI: On the first day of resumption of domestic flights, 630 flights were cancelled due to restrictions from states and operational issues of various airlines.

After close to a 2-month-long suspension of commercial flight services due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown, the country’s busiest airports, Mumbai and Delhi, saw cancellation of 20 and 80 flights respectively.

States like West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh refused to allow flight operations, and problems faced by airline operators were also a reason behind cancellation of most flights.

Andhra Pradesh with 2 airports will begin operations from today whereas West Bengal will begin operations from May 28.

Air India received much criticism on social media for lack of communication with its passengers regarding cancellation of their flights.

Similarly, smaller airports too cancelled flights with passengers uncertain and uninformed of whether or not flights would take off.
