The investigation initially began as a search for a single stolen mobile phone. However, during the probe, police discovered a larger racket involving the procurement and resale of stolen devices. The two shops had been allegedly acquiring stolen phones from known thieves and selling them as second-hand devices for an extended period.
A breakthrough in the case occurred when police detained a customer who had unknowingly purchased a stolen phone. Upon questioning, the customer revealed the source of the device, leading authorities to raid Friends Mobile Repairing. During the operation, officers recovered 41 stolen mobile phones from the premises.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Chandmari police station said, “We busted the racket yesterday and are investigating the case now.”
Police have now launched a deeper investigation to trace the supply chain and identify others involved in the illicit trade.
