38th State Taekwondo Championship Begins In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: The 38th State Taekwondo Championship started in Guwahati on Friday in the DTRP indoor hall, Nehru Stadium.

The tournament is scheduled to continue until June 20, with a total of 38 districts participating and over 1200 participants involved.

Birinchi Saikia, the Technical Director of the All Assam Taekwondo Association, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "This presents an exciting opportunity for all the participants as they will have the chance to represent Assam at the national level.”

The victorious individuals from this competition will compete in the National Taekwondo Championship. The Junior Nationals are scheduled to take place in Karnataka from July 6-9, followed by the Cadet Nationals in Lucknow from July 20-23. Finally, the Senior Nationals will be held in Guwahati from September 1-4.

The tournament, spanning four days, will be divided into two parts: Poomsae and Kyorugi. Competitions in both disciplines will be conducted across different age groups. The age categories for the tournament are as follows:

Cadet: Participants aged 12 to 14 years.
Junior: Participants aged 15 to 17 years.
Senior: Participants aged 18 years and above.

Each age group will compete in both Poomsae and Kyorugi events, showcasing their skills and abilities in these respective categories.

The tournament commenced at 11 AM and was inaugurated by Pradeep Timung, the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare, and Hiranya Saikia, the Vice President of the Taekwondo Federation of India.
