283 Children rescued from Guwahati Railway Station in 2018

GUWAHATI: Railway Childline in Guwahati has rescued 283 children from Guwahati railway station in 2018 till November 30.

According to the data furnished by the Railway Childline officials, a majority of those rescued by Railway Childline were runaway children. Authorities informed that the data ranges from April 1 to November 30, 2018.

Further, out of 283 rescued children, 209 were male and 79 were female.

Childline is a programme under the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) meant for the safeguard of children in need of care and protection. Railway Childline works to provide emergency rescue and protection services to children at railway stations.

Additionally, in 2016-17, the officials rescued 317 children while this figure rose to 373 in 2017-18.

“Apart from our team at Railway Childline, we also have other authorities who help us in locating and rescuing children who have been lost, missing or runaway children,” said Abani Haloi, co-ordinator of Railway Childline.   

He added that other authorities include the GRP, RPF, any concerned passenger or adult and other railway officials.
